An Environmentally Friendly Foodstore
As one of the country's first ever environmentally friendly foodstore's it will include:
- 30% reduction in carbon emissions
- Rainwater harvesting
- Sustainably sourced Gluelam timber structure, monodraft roof vents to aid natural ventilation, increase oxygen levels and reduce the loads on the HVAC system
- Larch cladding system which is 100% recycled and has 8% embedded carbon
- CO² refrigeration as a replacement for harmful refrigerants that have higher Ozone Depleting (ODP) and Global Warming Potential (GWP) and to reduce energy loads
- 'A' rated (by the Building Research Establishment) roof and wall materials with high thermal quality and low environmental impacts
- Gas CHP which produces residual energy in a highly carbon efficient manner
- Operational Energy Champions who receive full training and support to enable them to work with employees to ensure the store is operated as efficiently as possible
- 6 types of retail waste will be collected, sorted and sent for recycling
